Two things: perhaps the reason participants said other Canadians would draw a less appealing ‘typical’ Albertan is b/c our government gives them every reason to do so. And,
Perhaps our government is making sure Albertans pay more for health care, insurance, and so on because they know this strategy will push more Albertans into the separatist camp - b/c of course these increasing costs are the fault of Ottawa.
I'd add that when folks outside Alberta reference "Alberta" in a negative way or in any political context - it is specifically in reference to the Government of Alberta. The G of A has a lot of support, so there is some real tension there, but I don't know how much support Danielle has for some of her zanier positions or remarks - the ones that elicit the eye rolls and negative judgement.
Always a great idea to talk to real people about what and how they feel about certain topics especially those that polarize and motivate extreme views. Rather then working together to bring positive solutions to socioeconomic issues some politicians may not have the skills to "stick handle" positive outcomes.
This is a great exercise! Gets to the root of what people are really thinking and feeling.
Alberta has a unique political history in Canada. They tend to stay with one party for decades at a time then switch to another party for the next few decades. That makes it easy for the people in power to a) stay there and b) point to someone else, I usually the east, and put all the blam there. Alberta also has financial inequality issues. Working class people know they've been screwed but they don't know why or who did it. Their anger is easy to harness and redirect.

Maybe some don't have the skills but some have no interest in doing so. They take power from Alberta's divisions.
Enjoyed being a part of the process!
