Common Ground will be in a community near you this summer.
What is life like for the typical Albertan these days? We’ve been asking that question of thousands of our neighbours since 2019.
As part of our annual tradition, we are hosting focus groups in communities across the province to better understand how Albertans view the political landscape.
We rotate locations year to year, and will be visiting the following communities in 2026:
Edmonton: June 17, 18, and 30
Fort McMurray: June 24 and 25
St. Paul: July 2
Lethbridge: July 8 and 9
Calgary: July 14, 15, and 16
Hanna: July 29

Common Ground is a research initiative based at the University of Alberta that explores political culture across Western Canada. We combine traditional surveys with community-based focus groups, youth engagement in schools, public opinion polling, and one-on-one conversations to gain a deeper understanding of how people think about politics today.
